Power Window Wizard “How to tell whats wrong with your power window”

How to diagnose your power window problem.

Does your window make a horrible crunching sound when you press the switch to operate?  then your window regulator is broken and a new one is required.  Would you describe your window as being off track?  Then you have a broken window regulator.  In a very few cases in may only be that the glass sashes that connect the glass to the regulator have come off and either you need new ones or these may be urethane back on (wait required dry time) .

If you press the window switch and hear a relay popping sound as well as the glass not moving then your motor is locked up then you have a motor problem.  In ford models you will still hear the motor running but it is still bad because the gears and bushings are needing to be replaced and that puts you right back to a bad motor.  we on the other hand could replace those gears and bushings saving you a bundle but for the no specialist window repair person, replacing the motor is your only option .  don’t buy the rollers for your motor at any auto store because ford holds the patent to the chemical and any other rollers (regulator gear plugs, I have no idea why they call them that when they have nothing to do with the regulator) will get and be useless within months.

The switch is a little tricky…you would need to run power to your motor and bypass the switch to confirm if your motor is fine leaving only the switch.  Unless you find a salvage yard switch to use be sure before you purchase this dealer only part as they will not allow returns on switches.
